For this project we had to choose an Ancient Greek invention to learn about. Mine was the ancient burning mirror and how it related to the modern day mirror. Once we had our invention we had to create a model of it as well as Greek and modern tags to provide information about our invention in modern times (modern tag) and Greek times (Greek tag). We also had to write a proposal describing all the information we would have in both our tags, how we were going to build our invention, and how our exhibit was going to be displayed.
My Greek Invention was the burning mirror. The burning mirror was a device that they used in the Battle of Syracuse. They took the sun's rays then reflected them upon a mirror/reflective device and the lens took those sun's rays and hit a ship which eventually burnt it down. The physics involved is the angle of incidence (sun's rays to mirror/reflective device) is equal to the angle of reflection (mirror/reflective source to ship). The modern day mirror is exactly the same however we don't exactly use it to burn down ships. It is used for personal grooming, carOur Hands on component was a re-model of this as seen in the image below. The laser beam hit the mirrors and reflected upon the hand-made ship.
I worked really hard on this and I am so proud of the work I accomplished. I could not have asked for a better scripting ending. I could not believe I had made my ideas come to life! Something I would have changed is that i could have worked better with my partner and done compromised a lot more then I did!
